Purpose of the Blog

The purpose of this blog is to document the variety of ways in which archaeology has communicated and currently communicates itself to audiences as part of the Communicating Archaeology Module.

This includes an exploration of the vast variety of ways in which archaeology is now publicised because it is an ever-changing and rapidly progressing field. Gone are the days of just news papers and radio advertising, for instance, Margot Eates advertisement of Maiden Castle. Whereas no now we have 3D reconstructions of world archaeological and heritage important sites from across the world available at the click of a button without having to physically go there.

In this ‘digital age’, the methods of communicating archaeology are endless, with the variety of platforms which can disseminate the information to large audiences which were previously unthinkable to older scholars.

Therefore, this blog will explore the timeline of communicating archaeological research from basic illustration and mapping with modern aids, to the beginnings of photography and videography, up to current day with the early use of 3D reconstruction in archaeology.
